UPGRADATION CONSULTING

Data center upgradation consulting for legacy and sub-optimal facilities

Modernise legacy or under-performing data centers to improve energy efficiency, connectivity and compliance without disrupting live operations. Our DC Upgradation Consulting delivers a prioritised, costed roadmap for infrastructure upgrades, performance improvement and long-term facility readiness.

WHAT THIS SERVICE COVERS

A structured advisory for operators of legacy or under-performing data center assets

The DC Upgradation Consulting service covers three workstreams, which can be engaged independently or as a combined programme. The first workstream, PUE enhancement, identifies the specific interventions that will reduce the facility's power usage effectiveness — typically a combination of cooling optimisation, airflow management improvements, and power infrastructure upgrades. The second workstream, connectivity redesign, covers dark fibre access, carrier diversity, and DC interconnect options to increase the facility's commercial attractiveness and resilience. The third workstream, compliance posture improvement, maps the facility's current position against applicable standards and produces a prioritised corrective action plan. Each workstream produces a structured report with specific, costed recommendations.

WHY TECHNAVIOUS

What makes our upgradation advisory effective

We assess what can be improved and how to achieve it without disrupting live operations.

Data center specialists, not generic facility consultants

Upgradation advisory for data centers requires specific knowledge of DC infrastructure standards, certification requirements, and operational protocols. Recommendations from a generic MEP consultant may be technically sound but may not account for TIA 942C implications or the specific operational constraints of a live data center .

Workstream-based pricing with clear deliverables

Each workstream is unit-priced with a fixed deliverable set, which means clients can engage one workstream without committing to all three, and know exactly what they are getting before the engagement begins.

Compliance alignment from the assessment stage

The compliance posture workstream is aligned to the same standards framework used in our TIA 942C certification and ISO multi-standard services, which means the corrective action plan produced in an upgradation engagement can feed directly into a subsequent certification programme.

HOW WE WORK

How an upgradation consulting engagement works

Four phases from facility assessment to prioritised roadmap delivery.

01
PHASE 01

Scoping

Workstreams confirmed. Facility documentation requested. Site visit scheduled.

02
PHASE 02

Facility Assessment

On-site assessment of infrastructure, operations, and compliance posture across selected workstreams.

03
PHASE 03

Analysis

Data analysis, benchmarking against current standards, and development of prioritised recommendations.

04
PHASE 04

Roadmap Delivery

Workstream reports, asset upgrade matrix, and technology roadmap delivered with client debrief.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Each workstream is independent and can be engaged separately. Most clients start with the compliance posture assessment because it identifies the most time-sensitive risks, but the PUE enhancement workstream often produces the fastest financial return and is a common starting point for operators focused on energy cost reduction.

The assessment phase of the engagement does not require downtime. The implementation recommendations are designed around the facility's operational constraints and are sequenced to minimise the risk of downtime. Where temporary service interruptions are unavoidable, we plan and schedule them as part of the upgrade roadmap.

The compliance posture assessment maps the facility against TIA 942C requirements using the same framework our certification team uses for formal audits. The corrective action plan produced in the assessment can be used directly as the remediation plan for a subsequent TIA 942C Facility Certification engagement, which typically reduces the time to certificate.

PUE improvement potential varies significantly by facility age, current configuration, and investment appetite. Most legacy facilities with a PUE above 1.8 can achieve improvement to 1.5 or below through a combination of cooling optimisation, containment, and power infrastructure changes. We provide specific, evidence-based estimates for each intervention rather than generalised benchmarks.
